The Carver Story

How we made a skateboard feel like surfing. Venice, 1996 to now.

Scroll

In 1996, two surfers in Venice went looking for a feeling they could only find in the water. This is how they built it.

How we made a skateboard feel like surfing. The Carver Story. Thirty years of innovation.

Part one

The flat summer

It started because the ocean went flat.

In 1996, Neil and Greg knew the feeling they were after. They just had to figure out how to build it.
It was a pretty flat summer, so we did what surfers have always done when there are no waves: we went skateboarding. Neil Carver, co-founder and original trucksmith.

Part two

Pump instead of push

The feeling was clear. The mechanism wasn’t.

Early sketches of a surf-style truck. What if they could pump instead of push?
Neil and Greg riding early prototypes.
Build. Ride. Build. Prototype parts on the bench and archival riding footage.
They welded parts, tested new ideas, and rode every prototype. Always finding ways to make the next version better.

Part three

The C7 takes shape

Thirty years of rebuilding the same idea.

The trucks kept evolving. The C7 took shape.
C7 exploded view.
Then came CX and C5. New trucks. New shapes. Same pursuit.
